Eugene Helios Grundt (1919-1996) was a longtime instructor and English professor at San Francisco State University (1952 to ca. 1990). This collection of poetry is varied and generally whimsical; as it states on the front flap, it is "concocted from a jigger of wisdom, a shot of acerbity, a lot of sparkling wit, wry observations, and a few clerihews, hearty limericks." It includes a few pieces touching on university scenes in California in the Sixties and Seventies ("Time Capsule Poem for a University, 1968-1980," "San Francisco State University versus University of California-Berkeley," "The Free Speech Movement") and one poem for Bertrand Russell. Grundt doesn't appear to have been overly fond of radicals or hippies.
