Antichrist is the fourth volume in Renan's History of the Origins of Christianity. It covers Paul's last days, the burning of Rome under Nero, the deaths of Peter and Paul, massacres in Syria and Egypt, the Apostles in Asia, the Revelation of John, and the destruction of Jerusalem.
A nice 1903 paper edition of Renan's work issued by publisher Peter Eckler in his Library of Liberal Classics (Vol. 6, No. 77). The cover features a portrait of Ernest Renan and dated Jan. 1, 1903.
Joseph-Ernest Renan (1823-1892) was a French philosopher, authority on Semitic languages, Biblical scholar, and historian of religion.
