The author, Nell Giles Ahearn (1918-2003), was the author of an advice column for teenage girls in the Boston Globe called Susan, Be Smooth. In addition to writing for other publications such as the Ladies Home Journal, Harper's Bazaar, Good Housekeeping, and Better Homes and Gardens, she also wrote another book called Punch In, Susie! A Woman's War Factory Diary (1943).
