Cookbook featuring recipes from the German Russian communities in Ellis County, Kansas. It is divided into seven sections, with each featuring recipes from a different city or town: Catherine, Munjor, Antonino, Pfeifer, Schoenchen, and Victoria (Herzog); plus Liebenthal in Rush County. The Germans of the Russian Volga Region initially immigrated to Ellis County in 1876. Each recipe is personally attributed.
There are a few brief notes in the Schoenchen section noting the recipes contributed by "mama," Mrs. Alex Schmidt (Elizabeth Milberger Meringer Breit Schmidt), who was born in Russia in 1900, immigrated in 1923, and who had lived in or near the city of Hays.
