Elizabeth MacKinstry (1879-1956) was an American illustrator of children's books. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she moved to Paris with her family when she was very young and spent many hours at the Louvre. After returning to the United States she studied drawing and sculpture, and in the years 1911-1913 she taught art at the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy in Buffalo, New York. She followed this with studies under sculptor Auguste Rodin. In 1924 she began illustrating children's books. In 1957 she was honored with a memorial exhibit of her work at the Central Children's Room of the New York Public Library.
