William Ivan Martin Jr. (1916-2004) was an American educator, publishing executive, and author of more than 300 children's books. In the 1960s he was editor in chief of Holt, Rinehart and Winston's school division.
Illustrated by William Papas (1927-2000), an author, illustrator, and political cartoonist. He was born in South Africa, the son of a successful Greek immigrant, and lived and worked in England, Greece, Switzerland, and Oregon. He was published in The Guardian, The Sunday Times, and Punch, and had a working association with Oxford University Press.
