A Curtain of Ignorance exposes the many errors and false prophecies which had been given to the American people and which distorted their perception of Communist China. He analyzes the role of the China Lobby, the myths of Chiang sympathizers, the actual circumstances of the China-Tibet conflict, the mistaken views of China's relationship with Russia, and the wishful thinking about the demise of the Communist regime.
He draws on the work of China specialists, eye-witness reports of journalists and experts, and his own first-hand observations during his three visits to China in 1957, 1960, and 1963 (and wherein he conducted two interviews with Premier Chou En-Lai), and contends that the present US policy on China, based as it is on ignorance and misinformation, will lead to political isolation. Felix Greene (1909-1985) was a British journalist who chronicled several communist countries in the 1960s and 1970s, and was known for presenting a decidedly positive view of communist society. He was the cousin of both Graham Greene and Christopher Isherwood.
