A collection of photography, poetry, prose, and calligraphy produced by Laurence Kunkel in 1969 at Reed College, the publication of which stood for his thesis. Kunkel spent fourteen months creating Cathedral, which featured the artistic and literary work of 49 contributors. 1000 copies were printed.
Features a full page photograph of Gary Snyder taken by Kunkel (juxtaposed with a print of Baudelaire). Kunkel's published dedication of Cathedral to "L" (the American calligrapher and Reed professor Lloyd Reynolds) appears on the a subtitle page that features Reynold's calligraphy.
Contributions include photography by the Bay Area artist Lisa Goldschmid ('71), seven poems by the two-time American Book Award winner Mei-mei Berssenbrugge ('69), photography by [presumed by University of Washington photography professor] Paul Berger, and calligraphy by professional designer and RISD graduate, D. Michael McPherson ('68).
